Fashion Designer. And a sucessful Interior Designer & Decorator. Born April 8th, in INDIA. The third child to Randolph (an Industrialist) & Maureen Salins, Michelle enjoyed a pampered childhood. She attended the St. Ann's High School in Secunderabad and later St. Francis College before leaving home to join the popular design school, Sophia B.K.Somani in Mumbai.
She did well securing herself an award in her final year & also a special award for her color implementation. She was noticed at a college fest by well known dancer & choreograher Shiamak Davar & she went on to join his company for Jazz ballet & performed at professional shows as a hobby.
Back home in Secunderabad, Michelle started her company 'Salins Designs' & sucessfully designed & executed interior projects for celebrity homes, offices & automobile showrooms. Her prestigious client list include the home of the ex-Prime Minister of India, office of ex-chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, showrooms for BMW, Hyundai, General Motors, Tata, Maruti & Ford.The Sathyam Cinemas theatre & office of Oracle. She has also designed gift packaging for the Sultan Of Oman for his 35th anniversary celebrations.
However, Michelle's passion for fashion continued & she started her label in 2007. Completely self taught, Michelle learnt her pattern making through books at midnight & went on to work with silk weavers closely in Southern India. Today, she understands the detail of the fabric & she uses it in various textures & garment styles.
What intrigues her most she says, is "Seeing my sketch turn into the actual garment & thereafter being transformed when on the wearer" It creates a sense of added feminity & sesuality to every wearer she believes. Having succesfully showcased at the Miami International Fashion Week in March 2010, she is now set to step into the International market, taking with her a peice of her country's rich heritage. Her garments have a stylishly western silhoutte & construction while her ornamentation is very indianized making it her signature style. Michelle includes in every collection a trace of the 'Butterfly' motif. known to be her biggest inspiration (as her Dad called her that), the Butterfly she says" represents confidence, playfulness, sensuality & color." All of which is very visible in her creations. Michelle is known for her incredible use of color combinations & coordinates. and her couture Bridal gowns & evening wear are a must have.
